scribble-it ContestPrint pageSend page

By staging the "scribble-it!" contest, we hope to maintain the high art of manual sketches. The aim was to find the most valuable, interesting and expressive artistic sketches of a scene on our stand. Accordingly, the motif could be chosen at will and participants were able to gain inspiration from insights, forecasts, proportions and visual links during a tour of the stand … The three contest winners were selected by a jury representing our company. Please refer to the photo strip for more details and all of the entries submitted. Congratulations to all of the winners!

The high art of scribbling

AGROB BUCHTAL announced its "scribble-it" contest within the framework of the BAU trade fair (17-22 January 2011 in Munich). The aim was to find the most artistic, interesting and expressive scribble of any stand impression with products by cult brand Apple offered as prizes for the three best entries. The winner has meanwhile been selected: BDB architect and engineer (FH) Karl-Heinz Pfefferer from Wemding in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries was delighted to receive the first prize: a top-of-the-range Apple iPad.

Representing the unison of hands and computers
Karl-Heinz Pfefferer's studies at college were accompanied by the dawn of CAD (computer-aided design) which swiftly increased in significance. Nevertheless, he continued to attach great importance to the art of scribbling, whereby he does not think manual and computer-aided designs necessarily compete with each other. Scribbles still remain indispensable when it comes to intuitive development, visualisation or selection of initial rough ideas. Varying line strengths or shading can suffice to express effective priorities. What's more, this method positively necessitates an unbiased approach to architectural tasks focussing on what is essential without being distracted by ornamental trimmings and decorative elements. Based on this concept, the winner completed a scribble in Munich whose distinctiveness and expression managed to convince the jury. CAD is the predestined instrument for specifying, clarifying and cultivating raw artistic ideas.

Device already enjoying intensive use
Pfefferer regards his brand-new iPad as a perfect supplement to his iPhone. The time he needed to familiarise himself with the device was therefore correspondingly short. The proud owner has already equipped his new device with various apps enabling him to present decision aids to his customers or go through documents together. The winner not only regularly uses ceramic tiles from AGROB BUCHTAL in projects he plans but also has a personal relationship with the brand: when the upper floor of his own home was renovated in 2008, the Pfefferer family chose the AGROB-BUCHTAL ASCARA range and praised the extensive consulting offered by their specialist tile shop - Schneid in Wemding.

A true generalist
It is obvious that Karl-Heinz Pfefferer regards his profession as a vocation which he truly loves: after studying at the FH in Augsburg, he joined his father's planning agency in 1998 - a business which had been established in 1962. Since his father's death in 2006, Pfefferer has been managing the company with his wife Daniela. As a practical generalist, he covers the entire range – designs and support during construction, small residential homes and 70,000 m3 warehouses, inside and outside, functional purpose buildings and representative doctors' surgeries. Together with his wife, services in the area of furnishings and design are also offered over and beyond the mere architectural task. What's more, Pfefferer has also recently acquired additional qualifications, e.g. as a "certified consultant for energy efficiency in companies" (with the corresponding entry in the KfW-Beraterbörse) and as a "BAFA energy consultant" ("on-site" energy consulting for residential buildings certified to the criteria of the German Federal Office of Economic and Export Control).

The winning scribble: an interesting perspective is conveyed by the expert application of various styles creating dynamism anTd an atmospheric composition.
